About Measure A

Measure A is an investment in our kids, our schools, our community and our property values. By November 5, join local parents, teachers, business and community leaders in voting YES on A for Monterey Peninsula schools!

Vote YES on A to provide the safe and modern schools that our community is known for and that our kids deserve.

For over sixty years, the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District (MPUSD) has served the communities of Del Rey Oaks, Marina, Monterey, Sand City, and Seaside, becoming one of the finest public school systems in the country. Our schools were established on a solid foundation of effective instruction, positive school culture, and collaborative leadership.

However, our classrooms and facilities were built for a different era of education. Many of our schools are over 50 years old and desperately in need of safety, security, technology, and campus updates.

Dedicated funding is required to provide safe and updated classrooms, labs, and facilities needed to support high-quality instruction in math, science, engineering, arts, athletics and technology for all students in our district. Furthermore, there is a need to create secured entry points, update security cameras, doors and communication systems to ensure our students stay safe in an emergency.

That’s why we need Measure A. With Measure A funding, we can ensure that all MPUSD students have access to safe and up-to-date classrooms that provide them with quality education and prepare them for college and careers.

Strict Fiscal Accountability and Transparency Required

  • All Measure A funds are locally controlled and cannot be taken by the State

  • No funds can be spent on administrator salaries

  • Public disclosure of all spending, and independent citizens’ oversight committee and annual audits ensure all funds are spent as promised

  • Measure A will help MPUSD schools qualify for state matching funds that will otherwise go to schools in neighboring communities

Vote Yes on A to:

  • Expand facilities for career technical education and prepare students for college and in-demand careers in medicine, auto tech, woodworking, and the culinary arts

  • Provide affordable, stable housing to attract qualified teachers and staff

  • Upgrade and repair schools and classrooms for science, technology, arts, athletics, and math

  • Update outdated plumbing, electrical, and ventilation systems, repair roofs and install solar panels to increase energy efficiency

  • Modernize MPUSD safety and security
